WHY USE THIS TOOL:

Most companies are sensitive to the commutation distance of its employees. They consider this issue when making decisions regarding a renewal or relocation of an existing office, or when opening a new office. At the very least, this issue is often cited as a reason to consider more suburban office locations, which typically command a lower rental rate.

WHEN TO USE THIS TOOL:

This tool can be used to approximate the most centrally located office point, or it can be color coded to show senior staff locations or most recent hiring commutation versus the balance of the employees. It can also show the impact on employee commutes for an alternative location. At the very least, having an employee commutation map on file demonstrates a consideration of employee commutation issues when considering a renewal or relocation.
