Occasionally, Landlords link renewal options and/or rents to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to incorporate inflation into original rental rate. The CPI produces monthly data on changes in the prices paid by urban consumers for a representative basket of goods and services.

To find out the current or past CPI Index, click here to link to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There you can look up the base and current date to determine the proper increase. Your lease should identify the specific index used.
